Web Design

Here it is, 7 months from graduation. I've been starting my search for internships or part-time entry-level jobs. I still have no clear idea of what I'm wanting to go for. In the meantime I've decided to start trying to do some freelance work again. I've been researching free Web hosting sites to put up my old portfolio. (I'm amazed at how many free options there are now compared to three years ago when I gave this up.) Thus far I've found a host that looks like it'll serve me well. (No dotcom address of course, but that'll come later.)

In trying to build my portfolio I'm going to look for small businesses/small enterprise as well as other design students who want to create their own portfolio. (Many students at Westwood don't have much HTML/CSS skills and so far none of the ones with Web design savvy have considered that market it seems.) Ever since I decided to pick it back up I've been very excited about the prospect. When I gave it up three years ago I had hit a wall with how much I was being self-taught, and the technology and language diversification got away from me. Now in my bachelors program I feel I've been brought pretty well up to date as far as the new computer programs go, and I've renewed my interest in learning new languages. Thus far I've done a crash course on PHP (which I used to hate for some reason), MySQL database, AJAX/Javascript, the new W3C standards for XHTML and amazing new techniques with CSS. Since I have been studying Actionscript emphatically for the past 10 months, much of these came quite easy to me.

I'll update with my new portfolio address soon. I'll also be posting my resume to it. -P
